TAP Fund

Each year Church Times readers give generously to the Train-a-Priest (TAP) Fund, providing much-needed financial support to Church of England ordinands and their families.

Over £4.7 million has been raised since 1952 and, as the Church Times keeps nothing for administering the fund, every penny goes to help train the next generation of priests.

There is a special focus on fundraising throughout Lent and Eastertide, with the total for the year announced at Pentecost. You can however donate at any time during the year.

Train-a-Priest Fund 2026 Appeal

Long-term readers of the Church Times will be familiar with our annual Lent appeal for the Church Times Train-A-Priest (TAP) Fund. For the past 73 years, our readers have been giving generously — to the tune of more than £4.7 million — to help to relieve ordinands of financial worries. 

As the Church Times keeps nothing for administering the fund, every penny goes to help train the next generation of priests.

In 2026, the TAP Fund is being re-launched amid significant changes to the way in which ordination candidates’ training and maintenance are funded in the Church of England. 

This year, we are extending the reach of the TAP fund to help people at an earlier stage of exploring their vocation.
